Discovery Channel Theater Atlanta 1996. Coca Cola Olympic City hosted a terrific Olympic Exposition including a contemporary interactive museum created by the Discovery Channel and featuring a stunning array of exhibits and a special exotic-media theater.
That's where Metavision came in.
Eclipse animation designed and executed by Peter iNova, Metavision. The deeply emotional presentation, A World Of Champions, connects the struggles of life, human and animal, in play, survival, growth and achievement culminating in the Olympic spirit.
Introduced by Walter Cronkite the show was created in association with Sweeny/Rasmussen Films at Metavision and was presented in the Video Panoram, 3 video disc, 3 projector, seamless 46 ft wide image with 6 channel digital surround audio. Sweeny/Rasmussen wrote the script and edited the content. Graphic design was collaborative and the entire project was post produced at Metavision.
Borrowing liberally from the look and feel of the National Geographic show designed and produced by Metavision seven years earlier, this production represented a refinement of its story arc and production technologies.
World of Dancers image designed by Mark Rasmussen and executed by Metavision.Technically, its production design was as rich as its story line was poetic. Unlike prior Panoram shows which were built on video tape one projection segment at a time, this entire presentation was created as one giant frame 1620 x 486 pixels in size inside a computer at Metavision. (For comparison, normal video equates to 648 x 486 pixels.)
This allowed source images and post production effects to be positioned without the need to consider which of the three streams of video would handle the appropriate part of the image.
From these large digital frames, perfect left, right and center video streams were derived easily for the synchronized video discs.
